Floods and rain! Hurricanes! The girls are watching videos on the subject because Hurricane Lucy is passing nearby. One video suggests this makes demons more likely to come through and oh no, Demon Afflicted Daughter! Kristen, however, is at the grocery store where I don’t think there will be any salt. She spots Sheryl, who gives her a bag of stun guns and sounds genuinely unhinged, but to be fair, Kristen really should be more willing to believe in the supernatural considering all she’s seen.
Leslie has shown up at Kristen’s to ask for help taking Timothy away from Leland.
Cut to David, who is doing some locating. It leads to Leland because of course it does. He’s part of “the evil that’s coming to New York”.
The girls are watching more ghosts in hurricanes videos, and this one just looks like the dude from The Exorcist or maybe an Orthodox rabbi. The lights go out. They hear the sound of a boy stuck next door so they do some breaking and entering. They start being stalked by some kind of entity, and they trick it and manage to get out of the house. Kristen is NOT happy with them. She brings an apology cake to the neighbor, who is none other than…LELAND!
INTRO TIME! 16 minutes in. “Don’t”. Ha!
Kristen smashes the cake in Leland’s face. Then slaps him. He makes a Chinatown joke. David seems to be seeing this through his astral projection. Kristen is warning the girls to stay away from Leland and that house. And that bag of stun guns has proven handy! Might wanna show them how to use those, Kristen. She also gives them air horns to blast if Leland is afoot. Ben and David are also going to help with the Leland situation.
David asks Father Ignatius what he should do. Would it be wrong to kill Leland to protect Kristen? Ignatius says no, the defender would be sacrificing their eternal soul. I assume this means if he preemptively killed Leland. Buuuuut he quickly walks that back when he pictures a situation in which he could have saved Matt. David immediately jumps to astral controlling Leland, who under this control preps himself a nice glass of…nothing, because he’s out of bleach. And knives. And before he can make Leland fire poker himself in the face, Leland plays the Uno reverse card and almost has David stab himself in the chest. But a plumbing emergency intervenes.
Sheryl breaks into the DF offices and writes and sends an email announcing Leland’s death. Leland reports this in but Dr. Boggs shows up first. Dr. Boggs is under the impression that his own demonic experience had a neurological explanation. He wants to see Sheryl’s prescriptions, which of course she has with her at all times. Dr. Boggs is about to be proven wrong about that whole demon thing as one unzips himself right in front of his eyes. After some hilarious pants mishaps, Sheryl and Dr. Boggs escape.
David is with Sister Andrea and Father Kabiru. He demands answers from the latter. Leland was formerly part of The Entity. Oh god is Leland a fallen angel? No, he was training to be a priest for ten years. He knows everything The Entity knows and now has a pathway into David. Sister Andrea also supports David’s Leland Killing Policy.
I guess that demon didn’t try very hard to chase Sheryl and Dr. Boggs because they’re sitting having a nice drink in his office. Sheryl steals what appears to be some Fentanyl from Dr. Boggs. Why does he have that? By the time she leaves, Dr. Boggs has convinced himself they hallucinated the demon. Sheryl gives him goodbye notes for Kristen and Andy. Or confessions I suppose.
David is voluntarily tied up in Kristen’s shed and the Team is researching ways to stop him. As they do, Leland gets through and, through David, hurts Kristen’s hand. They distract him by playing marching band music, which is hilarious, and he loses his grip.
The hurricane is picking up and some guy from a Magritte painting is standing outside scaring Sister Andrea, who is defending Kristen’s family. A few demons run by her and scratch her, but she tells them to go back to hell. Magritte guy comes up to her directly, says “you’re an old woman, you mean nothing, and we own the storm.” Apparently, God doesn’t control this storm. Sister Andrea falls while Lynn watches.
David has retrieved Sister Andrea and brought her inside Kristen’s house, where everyone is. They pray. Everyone eventually falls asleep. When they wake up, David and Kristen have a talk that actually makes me tear up. David tells Kristen he wishes he had two lives, one for God, and one for her. Kristen says she wishes she had two lives, both for David. Ben’s all “what about me?”.
Somehow the marching band music is still playing for Leland, who resorts to his youth serum. Oooooh which is full of Fent! He’s ODing. Sheryl appears to rub it in and remind him his stock is falling. She’s about to kill him when a demon knocks her out.
Kristen gets a call and we cut to Sheryl in the ER, with the story she fell out of a window. The girls beg her not to die, and Kristen enters her room. Sheryl begs Kristen to forgive her. Kristen asks her if she wants the last rites. Am I meant to capitalize that? Kristen tells Sheryl she loves her. David performs the rites. Sheryl dies and I don’t have anything funny to say here.
Dr. Boggs gives Kristen the note Sheryl left. It’s not a note, it’s a USB drive. It begins “what you see behind me is a secret room in Leland Townsend’s apartment”, but that’s all we see before we cut to Leland with Leslie and Timothy. It’s the fuzz with a search warrant. They go straight to the closet, then arrest Leland.
Someone is at Kristen’s door too. It’s Child Protective Services, and they are bringing Timothy to Kristen. I like how they had him hiding behind them. Also how they expect her to answer right then. But she doesn’t because THE END.
