Biography
Wood was born at the family plantation on Long Cane Creek, Abbeville, South Carolina in about 1763. He was the eldest of 3 sons of Henry "Junior" Breazeale ( the beloved grandson of Henry "the Planter") and Elizabeth Woods.
Wood served in the Revolutionary War as a private under Capt. John Cowan in the Upper Ninety-Six District Regiment of South Carolina.
Wood married Mary Rhea about 1786.
In about 1794, Wood and his family, brothers Willis and Henry and their families, their mother Elizabeth Woods Breazeale Hawkins, cousin James Breazeale, and possibly other family all moved from Abbeville County, South Carolina first to Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee for a short while, and then to Kingston in the newly-formed Roane County, Tennessee where they remained.
While there are many Roane County records of Wood's brothers and their families, little is known of himself and his immediate family other than his son David Rhea/Ray Breazeale.
In 1850, when he was about 87 years old, Woods was living in the household of one of his many his nephews. It appears that his wife had already passed away by this time, and that he may have been blind.
It has been speculated that he died in Roane County in about 1862. He would have been nearly 100 years old.
